48 Hours: Bridgetown, Barbados

The Barbados Tourism Authority invited me as a guest to cover the fourth annual Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival on my blog from a lifestyle standpoint; the international culinary event of the season boasting the ultimate Caribbean gourmet. In partnership with American Express Publishing’s Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine, Departures and Executive Travel. The festival was hosted by Christina Grdovic, Vice President and Publisher at Food & Wine. Culinary all-stars, included Anne Burrell and Marcus Samuelsson.

Chefs showcased their delectable skills using special cooking techniques in intimate gatherings with a wide variety of demonstrations, tasting events and seminars. In my opinion, the festival aimed to show novices the art of cooking and wine pairing, but also how to enjoy fine food, wine and rum all the more on the beautiful beaches of Barbados.

The highlight, exploring Mount Gay Rum factory, the oldest rum in the world at the historic rum distillery in St. Lucy. I learned about the brand’s 310-year rich history of rum-crafting experience from Master Blender Allen Smith. I sampled various rums and blended my own and got the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Bajan lunch.
